Sam…
Don't cry, Sam.
That sounds foolish. Of course you're going to cry. I wept, too, I know you saw.
Do you understand why I had to go? I think you do, deep inside, where you're not ready to look yet. One day, when you're old and weary, you'll look and you'll find that same longing in your heart. For now it's buried deep, muffled by love and joy, by Rosie and Elanor and the many others to come.
I know you're coming, Sam. One day. You don't see, but you will. While we were riding, Elrond spoke to me, a few words that were meant for my ears alone. He told me that there is something more to me, something different. A quality… something almost Elven. Ethereal, Elrond said. He told me I have it, and Bilbo has it, and the Elves can tell that we're different to other hobbits.
That was all he said, and I wasn't sure why… until we said goodbye. Then, Sam, I was certain… I saw it in your eyes. A spark… a quality. I doubt even Rosie has seen it yet, but I know.
You're coming, Sam. One day, when you tire of the world, you'll come to find me.
You'll have a full life, and many joys. Your years will be long and contented. And my years… where I am going, Sam, time is not the same. It will not be long, before we are together once more.
So don't cry, Sam. I'll see you soon.

It was wierd, I didn't cry all the time I was writing this. But when I was finished, and I posted it, I just sat there in floods for ages and ages...
