More poetry

Jul. 3rd, 2011 09:12 am

Another poetry prompt. *Whimper*  All my attempts to make poetry make sense, reading out loud, rearranging the text into prose, making the writing very very big; they're just not working. with odd examples I just can't comprehend the fucking things. And now I have 12 hours to write a fic from one. 12 hours.

Sodding, sodding, sodding hell. I'm used to feeling uneducated in both Holmes and Tolkien fandoms, but I rarely feel this bloody stupid. *headdesk*

I've been writing like the clappers, and it's FUN. (My internal Watson is protesting that it's very unfair to have fun at his expense. It's a [livejournal.com profile] watsons_woes challenge, dear boy, there are 29 days of whumpage left to go.) Two Holmes prompt fills yesterday (including my first foray into ACD canon, OMG wibble wibble) that both went down well, and then a final kick in the teeth for my Hornblower Remix fic which has gone a bit strange but I think is going to be the version that gets posted.

The plotbunny hutch is getting very very unbalanced though. I think I may have let a boy!bunny in with the girl!bunnies because there are a lot more in there than last time I looked. I might have to decide which ones I'm not proprietorial enough about that I can put them up for adoption.

Today I am going to sit on the sofa and write more I'm going to do some housework. I bloody am. There are some errands to run too, a parcel to sort, but I do at least have to think about today's prompt and polish the remix.

I need more Hornblower bunnies to balance the Holmes bunnies out though. If anyone has any prompts lob them at me (in the understanding that it may take a little while...)
Lucky, the cat we took in on Friday (that we thought was a neutered male), managed to escape. (We don't know how, she seems to be able to open doors. Like a velociraptor.)

Yesterday evening the neighbours found her again. Up a tree. With five kittens, we think about six weeks old.

So, neither neutered nor male, it seems.

All have been captured and the various neighbours involved are housing three kittens between them, which leaves Lucky plus two to come to me, at least temporarily. Now that we know she's a non-lactating young mother I am even more concerned to get her to a vet asap. The kittens all look terribly healthy. Apparently when the neighbours sent their son up the tree he found loads of sachets of food that she had been nicking from somewhere and ripping into to provide food for the little ones.

I have been out to buy kitten stuff and plan to spend the day building a barricade for the spare bedroom door...
Fandom/’Verse: Holmes/ACD verse AU crossover with HG Wells’ War of the Worlds
Challenge: watsons_woes July prompts challenge
Title: Dashing Hopes for Our Deliverance
Character: Watson
Length: c.1900 words
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: n/a
Warnings: Crossover!crack. Character death, alien invasion.

Disclaimer: The Holmes characters fall in the public domain and are the creation of the wonderful Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. War of the Worlds was created by HG Wells and the quotations and inspiration used in writing this piece came from the Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds adaptation. No ownership is implied or inferred. This is done for love only.

Summary: Watson is away from London when the invasion comes, and has to hurry back in the hope of finding Holmes.

A/N: Er. There's no excuse. The image just grabbed me and then I had to go with it. I will try hard not to make every single prompt fic (a) crackfic (b) deathfic (c) both of the above. I promise to try.

Some phrases are filched from Jeff Wayne who filched them from HG Wells. Also Col. Burton's first name is, of course Richard.
