(In brief, as discussed by a bunch of rabid geeks after Enyalie in G&Ds, around discussion of the optimum year to assassinate George Lucas if one had a TARDIS.)

Skynet exists. It claims to be a British SETI of sorts. I have long been suspicious.

James Cameron exists. He makes emotionless films that pay off hugely at the box office.

Sheldon Cooper has postulated that if one were Skynet of the future the best thing to do would be to send back terminators who look like actors who have played terminators, so no-one takes them seriously until it's too late.

Our theory: James Cameron himself is a terminator, sent back in time to make the Terminator franchise and set up plausible deniability for Skynet, who can then develop safe in the knowledge that everyone will make any concern about their plans to remotely access people's home computers for seemingly harmless purposes, well, seemingly harmless.

The Terminator franchise is therefore bankrolling the development of Skynet. Skynet has developed and paid for itself.

Titanic and Avatar are also bankrolling Skynet, giving them much deeper pockets. This also explains their technical achievement while maintaining plotlines with the emotional range of a teaspoon.

You may scoff now. When the nuclear apocalypse comes, we'll see who told who so. ;)
