I haven't mentioned it yet but I've seen this film twice now and it's pretty clearly one of the best films I have ever seen. In one line, Stand By Me for grown-ups, in Wales. It's brilliant, hilarious, bitter, angst, wistful, lonely and simultaneously soul-destroying and wonderfully uplifting.

That's extremely purple prose. But it's TRUE. I can't explain without spoiling it and my brain is a little collapsey. I will write a proper review when I can.

But I want to put down for posterity, there was a Q&A in which I asked TWO WHOLE QUESTIONS (one of which [livejournal.com profile] morelindo LJ'd for posterity), that afterwards I went and rambled at Kelly Broad about what the film had meant to me and she was sweet and lovely, and since I loitered so other people could use my pen for signing I ended up talking to/rambling at Vaughan Sivell about what the film meant to me - which is something I haven't really talked about yet, and won't for a while, but there's a reason beyond my usual themes of life and death and especially death that this film is amazing for me - and will be with me for the rest of my life.

Anyhow, halfway through I started crying. Like a boss. And he gave me the world's best hug and told me that he was glad, once I'd stopped sniffling into his shoulder.

Then I had to run away before I embarrassed myself even more. But oh god, writers are just the best, truly awesome, and this one is one of the best of the best.

Seriously, I'll write a proper review tomorrow. Right now I'm still on flail flail flail squee squee squee. Sometimes the fangirl gene must out, after all.

I was at that screening too! I'm glad you asked those questions, because I am way too chicken to speak out at Q&As like that. Very brave of you :p Plus I was still crying quietly to myself over the film as a whole.

I think your description is entirely fitting. I think this film is going to stick with me for a very, very long time. I think I need to see it again, it was just so beautiful.

Oh, I wish I'd known! Never mind. Next time I'm going to Warwick for a film I will buzz at you - I was talking to the chap who runs the cinema and it sounds like they have some awesome stuff lined up. Or when it comes out, that Everyone Will Die film...

That would be brilliant! I used to work at the Arts Centre when I was a lowly undergrad, they do tend to have some great films on :)

Yay for writers who get it - and sound like really nice guys to boot.

Awwww the trailer did remind me a bit like Stand by Me and I loved that film.

I have to wait for the DVD release, unfortunately. The Sydney film festival will be showing it but it's during the exam time and I don't have time to fly up there just to watch a movie.

Ah, that's tough. Sometime's it's good being on such a small island... you'll love it, regardless.
